Katie Scott, our Director, has a wealth of experience as a senior leader, influencer and change maker. Over the past 15 years she has held positions including, Head of Culture and Inclusion at the Premier League, Culture and Inclusion Manager for the International Rescue Committee, Head of Student Opportunities (Social Impact) and Head of Coaching and Mentoring, both at the University of Edinburgh. In addition she was a Board Member of The Empower Project, Co-chair of the International Academic Peer Learning Leadership Group, and Lecturer in Leadership Development.
Katie has a passion for championing equity, inclusion, cultural development and social impact, with a particular focus on empowering those with diverse social identities to create meaningful change. This has led her to provide external evaluation for the Scottish Government funded Skills for New Scots Program supporting Refugees and Asylum seekers, develop a Transformative Leadership Coaching Framework for the Mastercard Foundation African Scholars Programme, develop an ‘Empowered Women in STEM’ course for Upskill me and deliver a Mentoring Programme re-design for University of East London and AdvanceHE.
During her time at the Premier League Katie was responsible for designing and implementing a business-wide 'Culture Refresh', including developing and embedding new organisational vision, values, and behaviors, focused on building a culture of belonging. This was supported by a brand-new Culture and Inclusion Strategy, enabling an employee-oriented high-performance culture, emphasising empowerment, equity, and agency within a globally recognised brand. In addition, will working with the International Rescue Committee, Katie designed and delivered the Units first EDI Action Plan, working in partnership with the SVP, senior leadership and EDI Task Force.
Katie is also a founding member of The Empower Project, a charity focused on challenging gender-based violence in the digital age. This demanding role involved working to establish a new charity within a complex sector and financially stressful environment. The organisation quickly made space for itself and is now an established member of Cross-Party Group on Mens Violence Against Women.
During her time at the University of Edinburgh Katie developed a sector-leading Coaching and Mentoring programme, winning multiple awards including from the Quality Assurance Agency, National Union of Students, SPARQS and the UK Council for International Student Affairs.
Katie also taught an accredited pre-honours Inclusive Leadership Development Course from 2015-2018 working with industry experts such as PwC and TeachFirst to create an innovative, progressive and impactful programme.
Katie is a great advocate of international engagement and impactful research, developing a portfolio of experience working across Europe, the Middle East, Australia and the United States. This has included developing a multi-agency participative research project in Palestine and Israel assessing the role of the conflict on violence against women. She also led a research partnership with 6 Universities across South Australia examining the role of peer leadership in non-traditional participation and was awarded Principal Investigator for a UKCISA funded research project.
Katie was Founder and Co-Chair of the International Academic Peer Learning Leadership Group from 2014-2018, a global network of academics and professional staff involved in peer-led leadership development, connecting 409 members across 22 countries.
Katie gets a tremendous energy from these roles and finds' the dynamic projects, inspirational people and range of activity across organisations incredibly motivating.
